White Cake


  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • a pinch of salt
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 egg whites
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract


  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Grease and flour one or two round cake pans. Sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time until well blended, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just blended.
  • Pour batter into prepared pans. Bake for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
  • Cool in pans for 20 minutes before removing to cool completely on wire racks.
