Funnel Cake Without Eggs

Ingredients

  • Funnel cake mix (optional)
  • Water
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • A pinch of salt
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 4 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  • Just take a bowl and mix all these ingredients in it.
  • Once the funnel cake batter is ready, heat up the oil in a skillet or wok and drop a spoonful of funnel cake batter into it using your hand.
  • Make sure that the funnel cake batter doesn't spread when you put it into the hot oil because funnel cakes need to be small in circumference and thick in texture (so that's why funnel cakes must not be made very big).
  • Add funnel cake mixture in batches of 5-7 funnel cakes at once to the heated oil.
  • Fry funnel cakes until they turn golden brown on both sides. Using sides on your funnel will help avoid spillage – but funnel cake batter is usually runnier than pancake mix. Use any funnel that you have at home to help put the cake mixture into the pan.
Just make sure it's really dry or coated in oil before funneling your funnel cake batter inside. Make sure the funnel cake batter doesn't spread when you put it into the hot oil because funnel cakes need to be small in circumference and thick in texture (so that's why funnel cakes must not be made very big). Make sure to use oil on your funnel if it's not wet already.
Fry each side of your funnel cakes for about half a minute to one minute, depending on how hot the oil is and the thickness of funnel cakes, then flip them over using tongs or chopsticks.
  • Flip only once when cooking funnel cakes! If you are cooking large batches of funnel cakes at once, consider using tongs instead of chopsticks for convenience sake.
  • Cook evenly on all sides by periodically checking to see if funnel cakes are browning evenly.
  • Using tongs or chopsticks will help funnel cake batter from spreading out too much while frying. If the funnel cake batter spreads out, it will break apart during frying. So make sure the funnel cake batter has a tight squeeze so it won't fall apart!
  • Fry until golden brown on both sides When cooking funnel cakes, cook for less than 3 minutes total so they don't burn.
  • Drain them out onto an absorbent paper towel to soak excess oil off.
  • The next step is to sprinkle powdered sugar over funnel cakes for taste and serve hot with syrup or icing.
