What I love about this recipe, is that it’s completely simple…but utterly delicious! In fact, this recipe takes just 10 minutes to prepare, and then 50 minutes in the oven. The ingredients you’ll need for this recipe are:

  • 3 cups of self-rising flour
  • 1 cup of unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons of hot water
  • 1 3/4 cups of granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup of whole milk (room temp)
  • 2 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract
  • 4 eggs

Step 1: Prepare

Gather all of the ingredients you need for this recipe and preheat your oven to 350F. In the meantime, grease your pan in one on two ways: with cooking spray, or with butter and a light dust of flour.

Step 2: Make the batter

Grab a large mixing bowl and add the hot water and butter (ensure the butter is at room temperature). Using an electric mixer (or a whisk) beat until you have a creamy mixture. Once creamy, sift in the flour, using a sieve and add your sugar. Once the ingredients are together, mix until well combined. Now add the milk, pure vanilla extract and two eggs to the mixture. Mix on medium speed for around 2 minutes, then add the remaining two eggs and mix for a further 2 minutes on a medium speed. Mix until you have a smooth, pourable batter.

Step 3: Bake

Pour the batter into your cake pan, ensuring the batter is even and level. Place your cake into the center of your preheated oven for around 45-50 minutes. To check whether your cake is ready, you can insert a skewer or a toothpick into the center of the cake, and it should come out clean. Remove from oven and leave to cool. You can choose to add a glaze, or a light sprinkle of powdered sugar over the top…or you can leave as is. Enjoy!
